CEDAR CREST SOFTBALL DROPS TWO GAMES TO CABRINI
Allentown, PA (April 22, 2009) – Cedar Crest College softball dropped two games to Cabrini College in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on a chilly Wednesday afternoon.
The Cavaliers took game one, 5-4, in nine innings and posted a 10-5 win over Cedar Crest in the nightcap.
Cedar Crest scored immediately in the bottom of the first inning when senior Allison Holland hit in sophomore Amy Stumpff to take an early 1-0 lead.
Cabrini answered in the top of the fifth inning when they exploded for three runs on four hits and took a 3-1 lead. The Cavaliers would score once more in the top of the seventh inning to make it a 4-1 game.
Senior Sarah Campbell blasted a three-run homer, scoring Stumpff and sophomore Tamera Gruzdis, in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings.
Cabrini scored in the top of the ninth inning to take game one, 5-4.
Holland went all nine innings for Cedar Crest in game one, allowing 10 hits, while striking out three batters. Campbell led Cedar Crest, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored.
The Cavaliers came out strong in game two, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. Cedar Crest answered in the bottom of the first when Holland had a two RBI single to score Campbell and Gruzdis and make it a 3-2 game.
The Falcons scored one run in the bottom of the second inning when Gruzdis had an RBI single to tie the contest.
Cedar Crest added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning when junior Rachel Orlen and freshman Sam Makey hit back-to-back doubles to score senior Alyssa Kabat and Orlen.
Cabrini exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth inning to take an 8-5 lead. The Cavaliers added two more runs in the top of the sixth to go ahead, 10-5.
Holland went six innings in game two, striking out five and allowing 12 hits. Holland also led the Falcons at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI in the game.
Cedar Crest is currently 9-17 overall (6-12 CSAC) on the season. The Falcons will host Keystone College on Friday, April 24th at 3:00 p.m. in CSAC action.
