CEDAR CREST SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH GWYNEDD-MERCY IN CSAC OPENER; CAMPBELL HITS GAME-WINNING TRIPLE
Allentown, PA (March 14, 2009) –The Cedar Crest College softball team split with Gwynedd-Mercy College in both teams Colonial States Athletic Conference opener on Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins took game one by a score of 10-2, while Cedar Crest came back to take game two, 2-1, on a two-run triple by senior Sarah Campbell.
In the opener, the score was tied 2-2 until the top of the fourth inning when Gwynedd scored four runs. The Griffins then went on to score four more runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Cedar Crest senior Allison Holland went the distance on the mound for the Falcons, striking out eight and allowing 11 hits in five innings. Holland had the hot bat for Cedar Crest in game one, going 1-for-3 with two RBI’s.
Brianna Seckinger picked up the win for the Griffins, allowing just four hits and one earned run in five innings of work. Rachel Smull went 2-for-2 with two RBI to lead Gwynedd at the plate.
In the nightcap, Campbell hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the third inning to give the Falcons the win. Holland threw a four-hitter in the second game, striking out seven and allowing just one earned run. Senior Alyssa Kabat went 2-for-3 for the Falcons in game two.
The Falcons are now 2-6 overall (1-1 CSAC) on the season, while Gwynedd-Mercy is currently 1-7 overall (1-1 CSAC). Cedar Crest will take on Marywood University in Scranton on Friday, March 20 at 3:00 p.m. in CSAC action.
