CEDAR CREST SOFTBALL TAKES TWO AT LEAGUE FOE ROSEMONT

Rosemont, PA (March 21, 2009)
Senior Pitcher Allison Holland (Mercersburg/James Buchanan) recorded 19 strikeouts in 10 innings to win two straight games against Rosemont College 10-0, 21-0.

In game one, Rosemont held the Falcons to two runs through the second inning, but errors mixed with hits in the second and third gave them enough to end it early 10-0. First year pitcher Caitlin Mazzoni (Middletown, Del./Middletown) pitched five giving up five earned runs and recording four strikeouts.

Offensively, first year Heather Daneker (New Cumberland/Cedar Cliff) and sophomore Christa Bednarek (Philadelphia/St. Basil’s) recorded the team’s only two hits of the game against Holland.

It was much of the same in game two, with the first and third innings being the Achilles heel for Rosemont; Cedar Crest scored seven and 10 in those innings respectively.

First year Becky Zimmerman (Lebanon/Annville Cleona) gave up seven earned runs and struck out four in 4.2 innings of work.

Junior Adriann Demchenko (Philadelphia/George Washington) recorded the only single of the game when she hit an infield single to shortstop in the fourth.

For the Falcons, sophomore Tamara Gruzidus (Allentown/Liberty) had four hits on the day, including a double, racking up five RBIs. Holland also did some work at bat recording three hits and five RBIs.

The Falcons are now 5-7 overall (4-2 CSAC) on the season, while Rosemont is currently 0-5 overall (0-4 CSAC).  Cedar Crest will take on Neumann at home on Friday, March 27 at 3:00 p.m. in CSAC action.
