IMMACULATA SOFTBALL TAKES TWO FROM CEDAR CREST IN CSAC PLAY
Allentown, PA (April 4, 2009) – The Immaculata University softball team handed Cedar Crest College two losses in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on a windy Saturday afternoon.
Immaculata took game one, 10-6, while also winning the nightcap, 14-4.
Cedar Crest went up 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run double by freshman Samantha Olier. Immaculata then answered with three runs in the top of the third inning. Cedar Crest senior Alyssa Kabat evened the score in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI double by sophomore Tamera Gruzdis.
The Mighty Macs then added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning, but the Falcons answered once again in the bottom of the fourth inning. Gruzdis belted a triple to help add two more runs before senior Allison Holland reached on an error and brought Gruzdis in for the third run of the inning. Immaculata then went on to score five more runs in the fifth and sixth inning to secure the victory in game one.
Holland went all seven innings for Cedar Crest in the opener, striking out 11 and allowing 13 hits in the loss. Gruzdis went 2-for-3 with three RBI’s to lead the Falcons.
The nightcap was all Immaculata. The Mighty Macs scored seven runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. They added six runs in the top of the third to make it a 13-0 contest. Cedar Crest put two runs on the board in the bottom of the third and added two more in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough to overcome the first inning by Immaculata.
Kabat went 2-for-3 with one run scored to lead Cedar Crest in game two.
Cedar Crest falls to 5-11 overall and 4-6 in the CSAC. Immaculata improves to 6-14 overall and 6-6 in the CSAC.
The Falcons will travel to the College of Notre Dame on Monday, April 6th for a 3:00 p.m. CSAC contest.
