CENTENARY SOFTBALL TAKES PAIR FROM CEDAR CREST
Hackettstown, NJ (April 8, 2009) – The Cedar Crest College softball team dropped a pair of conference games to Centenary College in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Tannery Field.
Centenary took game one, 2-0, while edging Cedar Crest, 4-3, in extra innings in the nightcap.
The Cyclones took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when Jolyn Veres stole third and took home when the ball was overthrown into left field. Centenary’s other run came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Allison Knapp drove in Veres, who reached on a single earlier in the inning.
Cedar Crest seniors Allison Holland and Sarah Campbell and freshman Sam Makey recorded the only hits for the Falcons in the opener.
Holland was on the mound in game one, allowing seven hits, while striking out nine batters. She allowed just one walk after facing 27 batters on the day.
In game two, Centenary took the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Knapp hit an RBI single to score Angelica Ruiz. Cedar Crest evened the score in the top of the third inning when Holland hit a sacrifice fly to left field and scored sophomore Amy Stumpff.
Cedar Crest then took the lead in the top of the fifth inning when the Falcons scored two runs on bases-loaded walks. Centenary matched the two runs in the same inning to make it a 3-3 game.
Centenary won the game in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two-out RBI single by Danielle Dundas.
Holland took the loss in game two, allowing six hits, striking out eight batters and allowing no walks. Senior Alyssa Kabat, Campbell, and Makey each tallied a hit for Cedar Crest in game two.
Cedar Crest falls to 5-13 overall and 4-8 in the CSAC, while Centenary improves to 12-8 overall and 8-2 in the CSAC.
The Falcons will host to Cabrini College on Tuesday, April 14th for a 3:00 p.m. CSAC contest.
