MARYWOOD SOCCER OUTLASTS CEDAR CREST IN LEAGUE PLAY
Scranton, PA (October 14, 2009)- The Cedar Crest College soccer team fell, 8-0, to Marywood University in Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Wednesday afternoon.
Marywood scored six goals within a seven minute span in the opening fifteen minutes of play. Tayler Simmons scored at 8:58 on a rebound of her own shot. Lisa Hanselman then scored 2:01 later on a breakaway to put the hosts up 2-0 and Siobhan Blancaflor scored just 56-seconds later to put Marywood up, 3-0.
A minute and a half later, Olivia Habicht headed a cross to give the Pacers a 4-0 lead. Just over a minute later the hosts went up 5-0 when Lisa Gavin scored on a Hanselman cross. Olivia Habicht then netted her second goal of the game on an assist from Blancaflor when she put the hosts up 6-0, a lead they would take into the break.
In the second half, Jennifer Slesinski and Jessica Shotwell each tallied goals for the Pacers.
Meghan Coyle collected a shutout in net for the Pacers after making three stops, while Cedar Crest freshman Stephanie Carroll made 12 saves in her collegiate debut in goal.
The Falcons fall to 3-10-1 on the season, while Marywood improves to 9-2-1. Cedar Crest will host Baptist Bible College on Saturday, October 17th for a 1:00 p.m. Colonial States Athletic Conference contest.
