SWEET BRIAR SOCCER EDGES CEDAR CREST AT BRYN MAWR TOURNAMENT
Bryn Mawr, PA (September 6, 2009) – The Cedar Crest College soccer team dropped a 2-1 loss to Sweet Briar College in the Consolation Game of the Bryn Mawr Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Sweet Briar’s Caitlin Swauger scored at the 17-minute mark to take an early 1-0 lead before Jacqueline Dodwell made it a 2-0 game off of a pass from teammate Emily Davies just three minutes later.
Cedar Crest junior Tatiana Ballreich scored her first goal of the season when she took a pass from senior Brittany Clouser at the 24-minute mark to cut Sweet Briar’s lead, 2-1.
Sweet Briar held a 14-8 advantage in shots, while also holding a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Cedar Crest freshman goalie Danielle Mendez had a game-high 10 saves in goal for the Falcons, while Sweet Briar’s Seanne Weekes made two stops on the day.
Sophomore Sam Smith (Sarasota, FL/Ponaganset) was named to the Bryn Mawr College All-Tournament Team.
The Falcons fall to 0-3 on the season, while Sweet Briar improves to 1-2. Cedar Crest will travel to Penn State Berks on Thursday, September 10th for a 4:00 p.m. game.
Cedar Crest will return home against Wilson College on Thursday, September 17th at 4:00 p.m. in a non-league matchup.
