PIGLIACAMPI WINS CSAC TENNIS COACH OF THE YEAR – SIX PLAYERS EARN ALL-CONFERENCE AWARDS

Aston, PA (October 16, 2009) – The Colonial States Athletic Conference announced today that Cedar Crest College’s Lynn Pigliacampi was named the 2009 Tennis Coach of the Year after guiding her team to an 8-2 conference record and a No. 3 seed in the conference tournament, while also guiding six of her players to All-CSAC recognition.

In her fifth season as head coach, Pigliacampi is currently the all-time winningest coach in school history with 49 wins.  Pigliacampi has turned the Cedar Crest tennis program into a three-time playoff contender after inheriting a team which had seven previous losing seasons.

Freshman Sarah Wicks (Bethel, PA/Hamburg), senior Sara Messner (Duncannon, PA/Susquenita), and junior Amy Dichter (Woodbury, NJ/West Deptford HS) were named Second Team All-CSAC for their outstanding singles play, while seniors Maria Mallery (Vestal, NY/Seton Central Catholic) and Laura Shively (Allentown, NH/Pembroke Academy) were named All-CSAC Honorable Mention in singles play.

Junior Alex Kuebler (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) and Mallery were named Second Team All-CSAC for their dominating play, after posting an 11-3 overall record (7-2 CSAC) in No. 1 doubles action.  Dicther and Messner were also named Second Team All-CSAC after finishing an impressive 9-2 overall (7-2 CSAC) in No. 3 doubles play.  Wicks and Shively were also named to the All-CSAC Honorable Mention team for their 11-3 overall record (7-2 CSAC).

Shively was also honored by the conference office by being named to the 2009 All-CSAC Sportsmanship team.

No. 3 Cedar Crest will play in the CSAC Championships this Saturday, October 17th at 2:00 p.m. against the No. 2 seeded Neumann University.  Cedar Crest will try to avenge a 5-4 loss to Neumann earlier this season.
