CEDAR CREST CROSS COUNTRY TAKES FOURTH AT CSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Immaculata, PA (November 7, 2009)
– Junior Katie Hartman (New Ringgold, PA/Tamaqua) led the Cedar Crest College Cross Country team to a fourth place finish overall at the Colonial States Athletic Conference Fall Festival Championships held at Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon.

Hartman, who has finished first for the Falcons in every meet this season, finished in 11th place overall out of 69 runners in a time of 21:33.  With her 11th place finish, Hartman earned Second Team All-CSAC Honors.

Junior Kristen Geisinger (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg HS) finished in 21st place overall in a time of 22:43, while senior Tasha Jones (Kane, PA/Kane) took 28th place overall in a time of 23:11 for the Falcons.

Gwynedd-Mercy won the meet with 40 points overall over second place Marywood, who also finished with 40 points overall.  According to the CSAC Cross country code: “Ties in the conference championship meet in team competition shall be broken by comparing the place finish of each team member 1-5 versus their respective competitors on the opposing team.  The winner is the team winning the majority (best of five) of the comparisons.”

Therefore, Gwynedd-Mercy won the tie-breaker 3-2, as their first and second finishers placed first and second overall, and their fourth finisher placed ninth overall, ahead of Marywood’s fourth finisher who was 12th.

Cabrini College finished in third just ahead of Cedar Crest with a team total of 90 points.  Cedar Crest finished in fourth overall with a team total of 115 points.  Baptist Bible took fifth with 139 points and Keystone followed in sixth with 156 points.  Neumann, Immaculata, and Centenary finished in seventh, eighth, and ninth, respectively.  Philadelphia Biblical’s runners did not score as a team.

Senior Samantha Barbato (Allentown, NJ/Allentown HS) was named to the All-CSAC Sportsmanship Team.

The Falcons will compete next Saturday at the NCAA Regional Meet held at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA.
