GWYNEDD-MERCY LACROSSE HANDS CEDAR CREST LOSS IN FINAL GAME OF SEASON


Gwynedd Valley, PA (April 24, 2010) –The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team lost its final game of the season, 21-10, to Gwynedd-Mercy College on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.    

The Griffins jumped out to the early start in the first half, going on a 10-0 run over the first 11 minutes of the contest.  Senior Rachel Orlen took a pass from fellow senior Amanda Dombroski at the 18:11 mark to make it a 10-1 contest.

Gwynedd scored once more before Cedar Crest tallied back-to-back goals by Dombroski and senior Kelly Oakes to put the score at 11-3 with 11:00 left in the first half.  The Griffins added three more goals before the end of the first half, while Oakes added two goals for Cedar Crest to make it 15-5 in favor of Gwynedd-Mercy.

Gwynedd-Mercy came out and scored twice before freshman Candace Boardwine tallied two-straight goals and then Dombroski tacked on another goal to cut Gwynedd’s lead, 17-8.  The Griffins then added four goals to go ahead, 21-8, with 7:49 remaining. 

Sophomore Tara Fikes and Boardwine each tallied a goal for Cedar Crest before the end of regulation.

Boardwine led Cedar Crest with three goals and two assists, while Dombroski added two goals and one assist. 

The Cedar Crest lacrosse team finished the season with a 5-9 overall mark (1-7 CSAC), while Gwynedd-Mercy improves its record to 7-8 overall (6-2 CSAC).
