MARYWOOD LACROSSE HANDS CEDAR CREST LOSS IN CSAC OPENER
Allentown, PA (March 20, 2010) – Taylor McKeown scored six goals and added three assists to lead the Marywood University lacrosse team to a 24-6 victory over Cedar Crest College on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.
Marywood and Cedar Crest traded two goals apiece goals and held a 2-2 tie until the 18:28 mark in the first half when the Pacers went on a 4-0 run over the next five minutes of play.
Senior Amanda Dombroski then added her sixth goal of the season at the 12:50 mark in the first half to cut the lead, 6-3. Marywood tallied three more goals before freshman Candace Boardwine scored for the second-straight game on a pass from sophomore Tara Fikes with 4:42 remaining in the half. Marywood tacked on one more goal just before halftime to make it, 10-4, in favor of the Pacers.
Cedar Crest came out strong in the second half when senior Jesenia Holguin scored just two minutes into the start of the second half to cut the lead, 10-5. Cedar Crest was then awarded back-to-back yellow cards to give Marywood a man-up advantage for six minutes. The Pacers scored four goals while they had the man-up advantage. Senior Brit Symbol added a goal when the Falcons were man-down. Marywood then scored 10 unanswered goals to close out the contest.
Freshman Kim Katsigianis made 10 saves for Cedar Crest, while freshman Sara Walsh made one save for the Falcons. Marywood’s Kate Sullivan made 11 saves in goal for the Pacers.
Senior Courtney Thomas posted a game and season-high 10 groudballs on defense for Cedar Crest.
Cedar Crest falls to 1-1 (0-1 CSAC) on the season, while Marywood improves to 5-2 (2-0 CSAC). The Falcons will host Alvernia University on Monday, March 22nd at 4:00 p.m. in non-league action.
