CEDAR CREST LACROSSE BEATS BRYN MAWR FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SCHOOL HISTORY
Bryn Mawr, PA (March 25, 2010) – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team topped Bryn Mawr College, 17-10, in non-league action on Thursday afternoon at Applebee Field.
This marks the first time in 18 meetings, dating back to 1977, that the Falcons have topped Bryn Mawr.
Bryn Mawr got on the board first, but Cedar Crest answered strong, scoring four-straight goals in the first half. The Falcons held the lead, taking a 9-5 advantage into halftime. The Falcons came out on fire in the second half of play, tallying five-straight goals to take a 14-5 lead with 22:31 remaining in the contest.
Sophomore Tara Fikes led the way for Cedar Crest, scoring a game-high five goals. Senior Kelly Oakes added three goals, one assist, and four groundballs, while classmate Amanda Dombroski added three goals and a game-high nine draw controls for the Falcons.
Senior Jesenia Holguin posted two goals and one assist, while junior Maureen Manning added one goal and two assists in the win. Senior Courtney Thomas added her first goal of the season, while also tallying a team-high six groundballs and four caused turnovers. Freshman Leia Epstein and Rachel Rush each added a goal for Cedar Crest.
Gabby Marangell led Bryn Mawr with four goals on the day.
Senior Devin Ursini made 13 saves and senior Rachel Orlen made five saves in goal for the Falcons, while Kate Flaming and Grace Kung combined to make 20 saves for the Owls.
Cedar Crest won its second-straight game and improves to 3-2 overall on the season, while Bryn Mawr falls to 0-5 overall.
The Falcons will travel to the College of Notre Dame on Saturday to take on the Gators in Colonial States Athletic Conference action at 1:00 p.m.
