CEDAR CREST SOFTBALL DROPS TWO GAMES TO CABRINI

Radnor, PA (March 20, 2010) – The Cedar Crest College softball team dropped two games to Cabrini College in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon on Cabrini Field. 

The Cavaliers took game one, 8-6, in seven innings and posted an 11-3 win over Cedar Crest in the nightcap.

Cedar Crest jumped out to the early 4-1 lead in the top of the second inning, but could not hold off a Cabrini rally in the bottom of the fifth inning where the Cavaliers tacked on three runs to take the lead heading into the last inning.  Cedar Crest produced one run in the top of the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough for the victory.

Sophomore Samantha Olier went 3-for-4 in game one to lead Cedar Crest at the plate, while freshman Brianna Moran added a 2-for-3 appearance at the plate and posting two RBI’s for the Falcons.  Junior Amy Stumpff added a 1-for-3 performance at the plate, scoring two runs and posting an RBI.  Junior Tammy Gruzdis went 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. 

In game one, Cabrini was led by Chrissy Squilliance, who went 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. 
Sophomore Natalia Dial took the loss for Cedar Crest in game one, allowing nine hits in six innings of work.  She struck out two batters and walked five. 

Game two saw Cabrini jump out to a 10-0 lead after three innings.  Cedar Crest scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning, but it would not be enough to overcome the Cavaliers seven-run third inning. 

Junior Michelle Palmisano led Cedar Crest in game two, going 2-for-2 from the plate.  Dial took the loss for Cedar Crest in game two.

Cedar Crest is currently 2-8 overall (0-2 CSAC) on the season, while Cabrini improves to 6-4 overall (2-0 CSAC).  The Falcons will travel to the College of St. Elizabeth on Tuesday, March 23rd for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader in non-league action.
