CIPRIANI RECEIVES UNSUNG HERO AWARD FROM BASKETBALL MEDIA ORGANIZATION
Bethlehem, PA (December 7, 2010) - Cedar Crest senior Kelley Cipriani (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) was named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball “Unsung Hero” Team at a luncheon at Starter’s Pub in Bethlehem on Tuesday.
"The title of 'Unsung Hero' is the perfect accolade for 'Cip,'" according to Assistant Coach Dan Donohue. "On the court, she doesn't jump off the stat sheet at you. She rarely has a 'great' game, but she always has a 'good' game. She's very solid. It's off the court where her importance lies - she's one of the best captains we've ever had." Donohue revealed that the staff refer to Cipriani as "The Hammer" for her ability to get things done, whether it's planning a team event or letting teammates know what's expected of them. "She's able to lead effectively because she has the complete respect of both her teammates and the staff," said Donohue.
Cipriani, a two-year captain, is averaging 5.9 rebounds and 5.1 points per game. This season, she scored a season-high 12 points against Bay Path and she tied a career-high for rebounds with 10 at Valley Forge.
The other members of the “Women's Unsung Hero Team" are Jackie Shunkwiler of Delaware Valley, Megan Montchyk of DeSales, Andrea Veres of East Stroudsburg, Meredith Starr of Kutztown, Hilary Murray of Moravian, and Alexandra Berlin of Muhlenberg.
The Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Media Organization is made up of seven NCAA Division II and Division III colleges in the Lehigh Valley, including East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Cedar Crest College, Delaware Valley College, DeSales University, Moravian College and Muhlenberg College.
Cedar Crest is currently 3-5 (0-3 CSAC) on the season. The Falcons will play their final game of the semester at Bryn Mawr on Thursday, December 9th at 7:00 p.m.
