CEDAR CREST BASKETBALL ANNOUNCES PINK WEEK TO RAISE BREAST CANCER AWARENESS AND FUNDS

Allentown, PA (February  6, 2011) - During three home games this week the Cedar Crest College Basketball Team will be taking part in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone Program.  The WBCA began the Pink Zone in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness within women's basketball, on campuses and in communities. The late Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, served as the catalyst for the initiative after her third reoccurrence of breast cancer in 2006.  In only four years, the WBCA Pink Zone has raised nearly $3.3 Million, has reached almost 2.7 Million fans, and has unified over 4,700 participants.

All money raised through donations, ticket sales, and special promotions will be donated to Cedar Crest College Alumna Jayme Atiyeh Grimaldi ’93.  Jayme was a field hockey player at Cedar Crest and is married to Matt Grimaldi, Director of Athletics at Keystone College.  Six years ago, Jayme was diagnosed with breast cancer which, after intensive treatment, went into remission.  In May 2009, the cancer returned and has since spread. She is brave, optimistic, and doing everything she can to beat this and spend more time with her family, which includes her husband and two children, ages 7 and 5.

Please join us in supporting Jayme and everyone affected by this disease by attending this week's games and participating in any of the special activities.

“Night on the Town” Basket Raffle - Members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and field hockey team will be selling raffle tickets during the week.  The basket includes prizes perfect for a night on the town - a limo ride, gift certificate for dinner, gift certificate for a manicure and pedicure and much more!  Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.  The winner will be drawn on February 12 and all proceeds will go to the Grimaldi Family.
