CEDAR CREST IMPROVES RECORD WITH TWO STRONG WINS AT ROSEMONT
Rosemont, PA (March 26, 2011) - Led by the hitting of sophomore Lauren Salge (Robbinsville, NJ/Allentown) and senior Danielle Freeman (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle), Cedar Crest defeated CSAC opponent Rosemont by the scores of 12-3 and 11-0.
The first game began evenly until, with two outs in the top of the third inning, Shannon Wenner (Drums, PA/MMI Preparatory) reached on an error. With this reprieve, the floodgates opened and the Falcons exploded for five runs in the inning to take a 6-1 lead. Cedar Crest scored in each following inning, including a two-run homer in the sixth by junior pitcher Natalia Dial (Kannapolis, NC/Jesse C. Carson). Dial pitched 7 innings, with five strikeouts and three earned runs.
The Falcons continued their offensive right into the second game of the doubleheader, scoring three runs in the top of the first. Cedar Crest scored three more in both the second and the fourth innings, and a final two runs in the fifth put the game out of reach. Dial pitched all 5 innings, allowing just three hits and recording four strikeouts.
On the day, Salge went 5 for 7 with three RBI's and Freeman went 4 for 6 with a double.
The Falcons are now 4-8 over all and 3-1 in the conference. Rosemont drops to 0-6 and 0-4 in the CSAC. The Falcons' next game will be their home opener against the University of Scranton on Tuesday, March 29th at 3:00 p.m.
