CEDAR CREST FALLS TO NEUMANN IN CSAC DOUBLEHEADER

Allentown, PA (April 15, 2011) - Neumann University banged out 28 hits to Cedar Crest's five as they took two games from the Falcons. The final scores were 16-1 and 11-0.

In game one the Knights paraded their entire lineup to the plate, and then some, in both of the first two innings to go up 13-0 after two. The Falcons managed a single from Michelle Palmisano (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl), a single stretched to an extra base on an error by Lauren Salge (Robbinsville, N.J./Allentown), and thankfully a home run by Shannon Wenner (Drums, Pa./MMI Preparatory) for Cedar Crest's only run in the five-inning outing. It was the second time this week that Wenner left the yard. Neumann pitcher Rachel Purpuro had seven strikeouts for the Knights, and Crystal Perlman and Megan Appold each homered.

The backend wasn't much prettier. The Knights scored four in the second inning on three hits, including a Lauren Strack RBI double. Neumann added three more in a four-hit fourth, while the Falcons had mostly three-and-out innings. Cedar Crest looked to be stringing something together in the bottom of the fourth, as hits by Tammy Touhsaent (Mertztown, PA/Kutztown) and Salge, and a walk by Palmisano, loaded the bases, but Salge was tagged out heading to third on a fielder's choice single by Laura Swanhall. Neumann drove in four more in the seventh on four hits, including back to back home runs by Nicki Spina and Callie Emel. Unable to get anything going in the bottom of the inning, the game ended after six. Neumann's Carlie Gustin and Lacie Perry, as well as Cedar Crest's Natalia Dial (Kannapolis, NC/Jesse C. Carson) each had three strikeouts.

The Falcons are now 8-16 overall and 7-7 in the conference, while Neumann improves to 16-10 and 10-2 in the CSAC. Cedar Crest's next game will be a CSAC doubleheader at Baptist Bible College on Tuesday, April 19th, at 3:00 p.m.
