FALCONS GET ON THE BOARD BUT FALL TO COLLEGE OF ST. ELIZABETH, 2-1
Allentown, PA (September 15, 2010) – The Falcon soccer team showed some more positive steps today by mounting their best offense of the season so far.
Not only did Cedar Crest put their first point on the board, but they got off 21 shots in the game - more offense than their first four games combined. They kept the game scoreless for the 23 minutes, largely on the strength of sophomore Daniella Mendez' (Cedar Grove, NJ/Montclair Kimberly Academy) 14 first-half saves. Mendez had 19 for the game. A goal by St. Elizabeth's Diane Da Silva at 21:18 was the lone score of the half, and the Screaming Eagles went into the break leading 1-0. Da Silva had a game-high six shots.
The Eagles went up 2-0 early in the second half on a Samantha Donlon goal off a Da Silva pass from the right side. Cedar Crest upped the intensity, getting off 14 shots in the second half alone and finally leading to a goal by freshman Samantha Korpics (Mohrsville, PA/Schuylkill Valley) from a pass by Kelly Oakes (Ocean View, DE/Delcastle Technical) from the left side. Freshman Maggie Mullens (Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) led the Falcons in shots with five.
Cedar Crest drops to 0-5 overall on the season, and St. Elizabeth improves to 2-5.
The Falcons will kick off conference play with a trip to Cabrini College on Saturday, September 18, at 12:00 p.m.
