TENNIS TEAM DROPS HOME OPENER IN A CLOSE MATCH WITH ROSEMONT
Allentown, PA (September 7, 2010) - The Cedar Crest College tennis team fell in their home opener, 5-4, to Rosemont College in a key Colonial States Athletic Conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon.
The Falcons, who started the match without the services of senior Mackenzie Lee (Bar Harbor, ME/Mount Desert Island), struggled in the singles portion. Sophomore Sarah Wicks (Bethel, PA/Hamburg Area) fell to Rosemont standout Olesya Kuchma at the No.1 singles position, and senior Alex Kuebler (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Regional) lost at No. 2 singles to Rosemont's Karis Coad, 6-3, 6-3. One bright spot for Cedar Crest was senior Amy Dichter's (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kayla Coad at No. 3 singles. Unfortunately, that was the only victory in singles action that the Falcons would see, although sophomore Nicole Mayer (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) earned a default win at No. 6 singles.
Lee joined the team for the doubles portion, and earned an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles with partner Dichter. But even a second default win at No. 3 doubles was not enough to put the Falcons over the top, and Rosemont headed home with a narrow 5-4 win.
Cedar Crest starts the season 0-2 overall (0-2 CSAC), while Rosemont improves to 1-1 (1-1 CSAC).
The Falcons will travel to Alvernia for a non-conference match on Thursday, September 9, at 4:00 p.m.
