LOSS TO GWYNEDD-MERCY BRINGS FALCON LACROSSE SEASON TO A CLOSE.
Allentown, PA (April 25, 2011) - Cedar Crest closed out their 2011 lacrosse campaign today with a 17-1 loss to Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Gwynedd-Mercy College. The Senior Day game also saw the end of the careers of Falcon seniors Jen Decky (Philadelphia, PA/Girls HS), Maureen Manning (Dimock, PA/Elk Lake) and Danielle Niles (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls).
Gwynedd-Mercy featured a very balanced attack, as 10 Griffins scored throughout the game, seven of them twice. The Griffins' Jenna Gaydosh started the offensive output with a goal in the fourth minute, which was followed by a flurry of goals that put the visitors up 12-0 at the half. The Griffins overwhelmed the Falcons offensively, outshooting them 31-4 in the first half and 52-10 on the day. Sophomore goalkeeper Kim Katsigianis (Amherst, NH/Souhegan) had a tremendous game with 12 saves in the first half alone.
In the first ten minutes of the second half, Cedar Crest's Tara Fikes finally netted a goal to prevent the shutout, but the Griffins were still able to add five second-half goals to their total. Katsigianis was masterful, finishing with 19 saves and six ground balls in 60:00 in goal. Niles and Becca Lowe (Richmond, VA/James River) each had four.
The Falcons finish the season 2-13 and 1-7 in the CSAC, while the Griffins improve to 8-8 and 6-2 in the conference.
