AMERICA READS/ AMERICA COUNTS

America Reads/America Counts is a national campaign challenging every American to help children learn to read and learn arithmetic.  At Cedar Crest College, America Reads and America Counts is a federal work-study position where tutors work at a variety of after school programs throughout the Lehigh Valley.

All Cedar Crest students involved in this program participate in tutoring of Kindergarten through 8th grade children at the local Boys and Girls Club of Allentown, Pinebrook Services, Power Readers at Sheraton Elementary School, Trexler Middle School, and After School Program at Union Terrace Elementary School.  Cedar Crest College professors, consultants, and Intermediate Unit instructors provide a diversity of workshops for the tutors. These workshops help the students become creative, effective, caring tutors for the children.
