Cedar Crest College Operating Status

CURRENT STATUS: OPEN

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have confirmed cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) in the United States. The CDC is working closely with the World Health Organization (WHO), state and local officials, and other health and animal officials on the ongoing investigations into these cases.

On June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization declared a global H1N1 flu pandemic. A Phase Six pandemic declaration is based on the sustained worldwide spread of H1N1, not the severity of the illness caused by the virus. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano stated that the declaration was expected, and reaffirmed that their departments are fully prepared to keep the public as safe as possible.

As of 3:00 PM on Friday, August 7, 2009, the PA Department of Health reports 1,940 confirmed cases in the state of Pennsylvania.

Cedar Crest College's leadership is actively monitoring the situation and will post further information as it becomes available. Please continue to visit this page for additional updates and resources.
