The event will take place on March 18 at the grand public opening of the College’s new Canova Commons on Cedar Crest’s campus in Allentown. The Associates Award, established in 1993, celebrates individuals and corporations who have made significant contributions to Cedar Crest College and to the Lehigh Valley Community.

“I applaud the Associates for their choice,” Cedar Crest President Carmen Twillie Ambar said. “Bob and Sandy Lovett have been supportive and influential advisors to Cedar Crest College over the years. National Penn is a mainstay at the College and in the community.”

The Lovetts are long-time residents of Allentown who have devoted themselves to the city’s comeback. They have been at the forefront of many of the positive changes that have taken place in Allentown in recent years.

The Lovetts met at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa. Bob Lovett likes to say that he “fell in love twice at Ursinus: with Sandy and with science and technology.” Sandy, a graduate chemist, put aside her career to be a homemaker and community volunteer. Bob worked for Exxon for 20 years before joining Air Products in Allentown. He retired 20 years later as executive vice president of strategic planning and technology.

Retirement provided more time to get involved in activities to promote Allentown’s renewal, and gave Sandy and Bob the opportunity to pursue their love of science. As a trustee of Cedar Crest College and founding board chairman of the Da Vinci Science Center, Bob was instrumental in placing the Science Center on Cedar Crest’s campus. The proximity has enabled many successful collaborations between the College, its science departments and Da Vinci.

In addition to his work with Cedar Crest and Da Vinci, Bob has served on the board of directors of the Community Action Development Committee, the Baum School of Art and Ursinus College. Sandy has been a long-time member of the Da Vinci Center’s Science Hall of Fame student selection committee.

National Penn has been in our community for more than 140 years. National Penn is a regional community bank that offers an array of services, including banking, insurance, investments and trust. Headquartered in Allentown, National Penn operates 127 offices in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland and provides a wide range of sophisticated products, while staying focused on individual customers and communities. Tothem, people make the difference and relationships mean everything!

National Penn is committed to its communities through volunteerism and encourages employees to actively serve the communities in which they live and work. In 2014, employees logged nearly 16,000 hours of volunteer time through various organizations across its footprint.

The Cedar Crest Associates Awards Dinner is open to the public. Tickets are $125 each or $1,000 for a table of eight with a $125 business card ad.

Cedar Crest Associates are business, professional and civic leaders from the Greater Lehigh Valley area who have demonstrated a continuing interest in the pursuit of excellence in the liberal arts education of women. The Associates raise funds for scholarships for Cedar Crest students.
