Email Backup/Retention Policy

The following information is provided to help users of the GroupWise Email System understand the nature of the Information Technology backup procedures and the availability of information beyond the date on which it is deleted by the users.

Email messages and email services are not the official storage location for any official College records.  As such, email messages are backed up nightly strictly as a disaster recovery resource, such as loss of hardware and facilities. In the event of a disaster, the backup would be used to restore the email system to its working state just prior to the disaster. Backup tapes are retained for a period of one week and cannot be used as a convenience to retrieve "deleted" messages. In the event of pending or reasonably foreseeable litigation against the College, back-up tapes will be retained until final resolution of such litigation.
