Your Organs are Resplendent
by Rachel Morgandale
Your organs are resplendent.
If I could peel open your skin
And peer inside, I’m sure
The scene would cheer my heart.
Every shade of red and pink,
Even some purple gray
All glistening with the
Moisture of human life
Then I could truly say
I love every part of you--
The spongy seat of thought
Cradled in your round skull.
I’d need a week at least
To memorize your innards,
Lovingly trace that pumping muscle,
Those lungs, that spleen, liver, kidneys
But, having given up med school
I fear my love would kill you.
Luckily though, your outside will do
So why don’t you unbutton your shirt?
