Hollywood Coming to Cedar Crest

Allentown, Pa. (June 25, 2013)— The curtain is rising for a new course hitting the Lehigh Valley this summer that gives local residents the opportunity to work alongside Hollywood talent while studying marketing in the entertainment industry and producing an original stage production.

Students in the Arts and Entertainment Marketing course at Cedar Crest College will be a part of a creative team, learning marketing strategy and executing that strategy for a stage production starring actor Dan Lauria (known for The Wonder Years and Sullivan & Son), actress Kate Vernon (known for Pretty in Pink and Malcolm X) and written by director Frank Megna (known for The Seekers and Veronica Clare). Two students also will have the rare chance to act alongside Lauria and Vernon in the final production.

The course, led by Cedar Crest College associate professor Kevin Gallagher and Kutztown professor, James ‘Doc’ Ogden, will give students a more hands-on look at the entertainment industry.

“They’re going to get the theory piece of marketing and actually be able to execute it,” said Ogden. “Students will work with A-list actors and get a lot more practical application.”
Ogden added that having Hollywood talent participate in a course like this one is something that most students wouldn’t see until they reach graduate level studies. Cedar Crest’s course welcomes high school students, current college students and all others interested in the industry.

Another distinctive characteristic, Ogden said, is the make-up of the course; “You almost never get the marketing and creative piece taught in the same class.”

This 3-credit course meets six times from July 12 thru August 10. Lauria, Vernon and Megna will join the class for the final two sessions, while finalizing the stage production. There’s still time to register, but space is limited. Those interested should visit
