GALWAY KINNELL, PULITZER PRIZE-WINNING POET, TO READ WORKS AT CEDAR CREST TOMORROW
A CELEBRATION OF APRIL AS NATIONAL POETRY MONTH
Event is a Public Fundraiser for Cedar Crest and
the Academy of American Poets
Allentown, PA (April 21, 2004) - In celebration of April as National Poetry Month, the critically acclaimed, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, Galway Kinnell, will read from his collections of poetry at a special fundraiser for Cedar Crest College and the American Academy of Poets, tomorrow, Thursday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Samuels Theatre of the Tompkins College Center. General Admission tickets to the Kinnell event are $8.
Kinnell's appearance at Cedar Crest is being sponsored by the College's Cultural Programs Committee, the Trustees, President and Abe and Tretchie Samuels. Kinnell's reading at Cedar Crest College continues the tradition of bringing great writers and poets to the College. In 2001, U.S. Poet Laureate, Billy Collins, read his work to a capacity crowd and in 2003, W.S. Merwin, one of the most widely read poets in America, shared his poetry with a vast audience.
The Kinnell reading at Cedar Crest is a fundraiser for both the College and The Academy of American Poets. The Academy of American Poets was founded in 1934 to support American poets at all stages of their careers and to foster the appreciation of contemporary poetry.
Tickets to the Galway Kinnell event cost $8 each (general admission). Various other ticket levels, which include priority seating, and in some cases dinner with the poet, range from $50 - $1000. For information, contact the Cedar Crest College Special Events Hotline at 610-740-3791.
