THE CRESTIAD TAKES FIRST PLACE IN
NATIONAL COMPETITION

Allentown, PA (April 28, 2004) - The Crestiad, Cedar Crest College's student-run newspaper was awarded with a first place honor for outstanding design and content from the American Scholastic Press Association (ASPA). Each year, the association opens its Annual Review and Contest Awards to over 2,000 high school and college papers nationwide.

Advisers pick the best representations of their paper and send it to the organization for a professional critique and the potential to receive an award. The awards are broken down into college and high school and then again by the size of the student body. The papers are scored on content coverage, page design, general plan, art, advertising and illustrations, editing and creativity. The Crestiad received 940 out of a possible 1,000 points overall and a perfect score in the general plan and creativity of the paper.

According to the ASPA's website, "The quality of a school's publications and how they present themselves to their reading community is a guidepost to the quality of the publishing school."

"I was both surprised and impressed by this award. The Crestiad has come a long way and I am looking forward to more improvements, and awards, in the future," says Jennifer Woytach '07, News Editor and Communication major.

"I am proud of the work that the staff has done this year," says Elizabeth Ortiz, Communication Instructor and Crestiad Adviser. "This award goes to show that with hard work and determination, anything is possible."
