CEDAR CREST COLLEGE CELEBRATES 35th ANNIVERSARY OF EARTH DAY WITH ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN OF ALL AGES

Student, Staff, and Faculty Volunteers Offer Outdoor Fun to Promote
Appreciation of the Environment

Allentown, PA (April 19, 2005) - Students, faculty and staff invite the community to celebrate Earth Day on the Cedar Crest College campus with a variety of activities and presentations. Activities will begin at 1:00 p.m. and will continue until 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2005.

“The theme of this year’s global celebration of Earth Day is ‘Protect Our Children and Our Future’ so we have a lot of activities geared towards the young people in our community,” says Dr. Amy Faivre, assistant professor of biological sciences at Cedar Crest. “It is crucial to engage and educate our children about the importance of protecting the Earth and its resources for the future. We want kids to know that they can make a difference too.”

In addition to day-long activities like face painting, tie-dying Earth Day t-shirts and making sun prints, the celebration will also include plays, a demonstration of making paper from recycled materials and live animal presentations from the Lehigh Valley Zoo, Lehigh Wildcare, and Wildlands Conservancy.

Schedule of Activities:

1:00 - 2:30 p.m. Performances of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”
Location: Greek Theater

Birds of Prey Exhibit - Lehigh Valley Zoo
Location: Tompkins College Center Lawn

4:00 - 5:30 p.m. Performances of “Diary of a Worm”
Location: Greek Theatre

Animals from Wildlands Conservancy and Lehigh Wildcare
Location: Tompkins College Center Lawn

Ongoing Face painting, Children’s story book time, tie-dying, sun prints, giant basketball and parachute games, plant sale, making paper from
recycled materials.
