Eleven Colleges and Universities will be Represented

Allentown, PA (April 27, 2005) - More than 200 students from 11 colleges, including 11 from Cedar Crest College, will present the findings of their research at the 20th Annual Lehigh Valley Undergraduate Psychology Research Conference at Cedar Crest College, Saturday, April 30, 2005. The conference will kick off with a keynote address at 9 a.m. in the Samuels Theatre of the Tompkins College Center. Additional activities will continue until 4 p.m. in the College's Oberkotter Center for Health and Wellness.

This year's keynote presentation will be "A Life of Research: Challenges and Triumphs" by Roberta Michnick Golinkoff, Ph.D., H. Rodney Sharp Professor of Educational Studies at the University of Delaware. Dr. Golinkoff has written many articles, reviews and books, most recently “Einstein Never Used Flash Cards: How Our Children Really Learn – And Why They Need to Play More and Memorize Less” (Rodale Books, 2003) with Dr. Kathy Hirsh-Pasek.

More than 100 papers and posters will be presented by students at the conference on a variety of topics. Among the Cedar Crest College presenters is senior Megan Kees of Shaftsbury, VT, who plans to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Kees says that her paper, “The Effects of Cats on Human Physiological Reactivity to Stress,” allowed her to combine her biology and psychology majors as well as her love of animals into one project. “At this conference, you get to present to a wide range of people, not just professors and students, who often have unique perspectives about your research topic,” says Kees. “It's also a way to connect with people at other colleges and share information. All research can be built off of, and a conference is one way to see which direction the building needs to go.”

Among the other colleges and universities participating in the conference are Cedar Crest College, De Sales University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Morgan State University, Muhlenberg College, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Messiah College, Moravian College, Ursinus College and York College of PA. The Lehigh Valley Undergraduate Psychology Conference is sponsored by LVAIC, the Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges.
