VARIETY OF DANCE STYLES SHOWCASE STUDENT TALENT AT SPRING DANCE CONCERT
Valley Native and Cedar Crest Alumna Returns to Choreograph Featured Piece
Allentown, PA (April 4, 2005) - A thousand miles away in sunny Florida, Lehigh Valley native and Cedar Crest alumna, Cate Mease, has not forgotten her roots. A former Cedar Crest Dance Company Manager, she returns to the College as a guest choreographer for the annual Spring Dance Concert. Her featured piece, titled “Rewind Forward” will be among the faculty and student-choreographed selections running April 29th and 30th at 8:00 p.m. in the Samuels Theatre.
“I knew I wanted to give back to Cedar Crest and I thought my time and talents would be a valuable gift,” says Mease ’00, who formed her own dance company, CMdanceExperience, while a student at the College. Following graduation from Cedar Crest, Mease immediately began work toward her Master of Fine Arts Degree in Dance from Florida State University, which she completed in 2003. She is currently Director of Dance at Belleview High School in Belleview, FL, and was named Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year in 2004.
“Rewind Forward,” is set to popular music of the1960s and explores the dynamic movement of the dancers both as individuals and as an entire ensemble. “The piece came to fruition during a week-end residency I had in November with members of the dance company.”
This concert also marks the final Cedar Crest performances for three talented seniors graduating in May, Kristen Kuloy of Islip, NY, Sarah Mahoney of Bristol, PA and Jamie Swartwood of Great Bend, PA. “I was honored to be chosen Company Manager this year,” says Kuloy. “Performing in Cate’s piece is particularly fun because the style and movements are different from what we’re used to. It was great having an alum take the time to come back and work with us. It demonstrated the effect that the close-knit nature of the Company has on its members and alumnae.”
This year’s concert presents an array of dance styles including jazz, tap, ballet and modern. In addition to performances choreographed by Cedar Crest’s experienced dance faculty, the program will include three student-choreographed modern dance pieces that were chosen by the faculty from the student dance concert, which took place earlier this year.
The Spring Dance Concert runs April 29th and 30th at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. For more information, please contact the Box Office at 610-606-4608.
