Allentown, PA (August 2, 2007) - Cedar Crest College announced today the appointment of Cynthia Blaschak as Chair of the College's Board of Trustees.  She has been a member of the Board for ten years, most recently serving as secretary from 1999-2007.

Cynthia Blaschak's relationship with Cedar Crest College began as a student.  She served as president of the senior class and was the recipient of the Reuben J. For eight years, Blaschak was on campus every day serving as an administrator at the College where she held various essential positions including special programs officer, director of admissions and executive assistant to the president for advancement. During that time she also served the College as a member of the Cedar Crest College Alumnae Board and is a Life Member of the Alumnae Association.

In November of 1996, Blaschak left the College to more actively pursue her community interests and participate in her family business, Blaschak Coal Corporation.  As a result, Blaschak has amassed a tremendous record of achievement and participation through service and both national and community organizations.

Blaschak is a former Trustee of the national Women's Sports Foundation, founded by tennis great Billie Jean King to foster participation by women in sports. Her dedication to advancing athletic opportunities for women and girls is also well recognized in the Lehigh Valley. She currently serves on the Executive Women's Advisory Council for the 2009 U.S. Women's Open, to be held at Saucon Valley Country Club.

She was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by G.O.A.L.S. (Girls' and Women's Opportunities for Achievement in Lehigh Valley Sports), the local chapter of the Women's Sports Foundation, which Blaschak founded, in 1995. In addition, she sponsored the establishment of the Cedar Crest College softball field, which bears her name.

Blaschak is a former member of the board of the Allentown Parking Authority and the Allentown Community Action Development Corporation, a former member of the Phoebe Home Board of Directors and is a founding member of the Power of Women of the Lehigh Valley. She has also served as a member of the Lehigh Valley Hospital Spirit of Women Committee.  Previously, she served as chair of the advisory board of The Lehigh Trexler Game Preserve, a board member of the Girl's Club of Allentown, and a vice president of The Old Allentown Preservation Association. A former member of the foundation board of the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Pottsville, PA, Blaschak also has been a lead volunteer for the Northeastern Pennsylvania chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the American Cancer Society and Executive Women International.

Blaschak has been honored with the Anti-Defamation League Torch of Liberty Awards and the 1996 Member of the Year Award from the Girls Club of Allentown. She was the recipient of the 2006 Alumnae Award, the Alumnae Association's highest honor, and the Cedar Crest College Associates' Award in 1998.
