CEDAR CREST STAGE COMPANY OPENS SEASON WITH POPULAR COMEDY “NUNSENSE”

Allentown, PA (August 29, 2005) – The Cedar Crest College Stage Company will open its 2005-2006 season with the popular off-Broadway musical comedy, “Nunsense.” The show runs September 29, 30 and October 1st at 8:00 p.m., and October 2 at 2:00 p.m. in the Samuels Theatre.

Widely acclaimed for its entertainment value, “Nunsense” begins as the Little Sisters of Hoboken prepare to host a talent show as a fundraiser for the burial of four nuns. The deceased are the last remaining victims of an unfortunate cooking accident that sent fifty-two sisters to their graves. The situation worsens when Mother Superior announces that she spent the last of the convent’s reserve funds on a 52 inch plasma screen TV. The show’s side-splitting fun continues as the audience follows the nuns on their quest to raise enough money to bury their fallen comrades.

“Anyone who loved “Sister Act” will adore this sprightly, crazy plot,” says Linda Baas, director of the musical. “Our production has a few new elements that audience members, even those who’ve seen the show before, will enjoy.” One of these elements is an audience participation segment that will give out show-appropriate prizes like “Testamints” candy.

The music is under the direction of Dot Hemerly and set and lighting design is by Roxanne Amico. Costumes were designed by Lee Martin. The cast includes Karen Cook ’06 (Shamokin, PA), Angela Vialotti ’07 (New Milford, CT), Patricia Egner ’07 (Kennet Square, PA), Heather Timberman ’06 (Hampton, CT), and Angela Romano ’06 (Norristown, PA) as The Little Sisters of Hoboken and Megan Schroeder ’07 (Wescosville, PA), Alison Kazaras ’07 (Westminster, MD), Rachel Bisceglie ’08 (Pine Bush, NY), and Jules Winters ’08 (Rosemont, PA) as the Nun’s Chorus.

The show runs September 29, 30 and October 1st at 8:00 p.m., and October 2 at 2:00 p.m. in the Samuels Theatre in the Tompkins College Center. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. For more information, please contact the Cedar Crest College Box Office at 610-606-4608.
