CEDAR CREST COLLEGE HOSTS FREE SEMINAR ON COPING WITH TODAY’S TROUBLED FINANCIAL MARKETS
Allentown, PA (December 12, 2008) — The Cedar Crest College department of business, marketing and economics will host a free public seminar on coping with the volatile financial markets, Wednesday, January 7 at 6:30 p.m. The seminar will feature a presentation by Tom Roberts, principal and founder of Harbor Lights Financial Group. Roberts presentation is entitled, “Stay Calm: Surviving Market Downturns and Thinking Beyond.” This presentation will provide insight on the capital markets from an historical perspective as well as from a strategic and educational perspective.

Roberts is no stranger to educating audiences on investments and the financial markets. An adjunct professor at Cedar Crest College, Roberts teaches the College's course on investments. Through this course, he acquaints student with the concepts of portfolio analysis in the general area of investment management and introduces them to the principles for managing financial assets. Roberts also is principal and founder of Harbor Lights Financial Group of the Lehigh Valley, a full-service independent financial consulting firm that provides financial advice and asset management services as well as insurance products for individuals, families, business-owners and their employees. He began his career as a Financial Advisor in 2001. Roberts has 27 years of diverse business experience including 18 years in the consumer products industry where he represented worldwide brands such as Vicks, Pepsi and Crayola. He also served as vice president of sales and marketing and as an officer for Fastnet, Inc. where he helped take the company public in 2000. Roberts has been an active volunteer in the Lehigh Valley community. He serves as a Trustee on the board for the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and he has raised over $35,000 for blood cancer research over the past five years. He is also a member of the President’s Council of DeSales University and he volunteers his time and insight to their Business Advisory Council. He served as a director for the Small Business Council of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce from 2004 – 2008 where he chaired the SBC Business Academy Program. He was a board member of the Bloomsburg University Alumni Association from 2004 – 2006; he was on the membership development committee of the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation for two years; and he volunteers as an advisor to students in the Senior Seminar class at Cedar Crest College. In October 2008, Roberts was nominated for and was a recipient of the Eastern Pennsylvania Business Journal’s Spotlight Award. Roberts holds an MBA from Columbia University and a BA from Bloomsburg University.
