GALLERY EXHIBIT: JILL ODEGAARD: "CLUSTERING AND GATHERING"

Allentown, PA (February 14, 2006) – Jill Odegaard, will display a selection of her works in a new exhibit, "Clustering and Gathering," at Cedar Crest College. The exhibit opens on March 13, 2006 at the Tompkins Gallery in the Tompkins College Center with an artist talk and reception at 3:00 p.m.

"Clustering and gathering are activities that involve the collection of individual elements that when combined create new forms," says Odegaard. "Through my exploration and manipulation of materials, individual elements accumulate from which these collections are created."

The artist has chosen pieces that use a variety of media to represent the technique that she chose as the theme for this exhibition. Viewers will see drawings, wood block paintings and fabric wall hangings that incorporate the process of clustering and gathering in some way. "The scale of my work affects the overall experience of the work," says Odegaard. "From the small wood block paintings that invite the viewer close to the work to experience the nuances of each block, to the wall hangings that combine smaller elements together to create a larger overall experience, both formats require a different type of engagement by me as I create the work and the viewer as they experience the work."

Odegaard has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States. She has taught art at Minneapolis College of Art and Design where she received her MFA, North Dakota State University and Moorhead State University in Minnesota. In 2002, she was a visiting artist at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Odegaard is currently assistant professor of art in the sculpture department at Cedar Crest College.

The exhibit will run from March 13, 2006 through April 16, 2006 and is free and open to the public. The Tompkins Gallery is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. For more information, please contact Vicki DaSilva, gallery coordinator, at 610-606-4666, ext. 3469.
