Allentown, PA (July 7, 2004) - The Rodale Aquatic Center for Civic Health will offer a variety of courses for students interested obtaining American Red Cross Certification. Course start dates range throughout the month of July.

For new students, the Rodale Aquatic Center offers a Lifeguard Certification course. This is a seven-week course, which includes basic first aid, professional CPR, preventing disease transmission and lifeguard training. Advanced students may enroll in the Lifeguard Training Re-Certification Challenge, a six-hour course that tests current skills. To obtain re-certification, students must complete two staged water scenarios and a spinal injury management scenario, perform mannequin CPR and pass a multiple-choice test.

The Aquatic Center also offers a CPR/AED Certification and First Aid For Children Today (FACT) classes. The CPR/AED Certification class is a one-time class open to community members who would like to become certified in CPR for the adult, child and infant as well as the use of an Automated External Defibrillator. The FACT class is a one-hour program that teaches the very basics of first aid.

"Being certified through the Red Cross not only provides ample opportunity for summer employment, since most facilities require Red Cross training and certification as a standard," says Scott Rowlands, Director of the Rodale Aquatic Center. "We provide the necessary training if you would like to become a lifeguard or if you just want to be prepared for the unexpected."
