Allentown, PA (June 14, 2004) - Heidi Bright Butler ’72, of Emmaus, PA, received Cedar Crest College’s 2005 Alumnae Award during the College’s recent Reunion Weekend Celebration. Since 1970, the Alumnae Association has bestowed its highest honor on alumnae who exemplify the positive contributions that Cedar Crest graduates make through their careers, volunteer work and family life. The award is given after consideration in five categories including service to the College, professional achievement, volunteer work, humanitarianism and single exceptional achievement.

Butler received a bachelor of arts in English from Cedar Crest and also became certified in secondary education. She continued her studies with graduate courses in marketing and education at Lehigh University and Weber State College and is also a graduate of Leadership Lehigh Valley.

Butler continued to serve Cedar Crest as an alumna both in her career and through volunteering her time. She was formerly Director of Public Relations and Assistant Director of Alumnae Affairs at the College. Butler was also an Alumnae Association Executive Board Director, a class agent, Auxiliary Life Member, and Association member from 2003 – 2004.

In 1986, at the request of former College President, Dr. Cesari, the Alumnae Association agreed to commission a history of Cedar Crest College in time for its 125th Anniversary in 1992. Butler volunteered her time as chairwoman of this project and led the project until its completion in May 2004. Proceeds from the sale of the book benefit the Alumnae Scholarship Fund.

Butler has also remained an active member of her church and community. She serves as President of the Church Council for Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and board member of the Lehigh County Conference of Churches. She has volunteered for the Great Valley Girl Scout Council and Planned Parenthood of the Lehigh Valley.

Butler is currently the Director of Public Information and Community Relations at Northampton Community College and has also held positions as a freelance writer for the Bethlehem Globe Times and Allentown Hospital (now Lehigh Valley Hospital), HealthEast, Burron Medical and the Lehigh Valley Historical Society. She is also a member of the CASE Regional Board of Directors.

Butler is the author of two books, “One, Two, Three – Ready, Set, Go” and “A Guide to Summer Camps in the Lehigh Valley,” and has received a number of awards including the Northampton Community College Professional Staff Member of the Year, the National Ace Award for Fundraising from United Cerebral Palsy (now VIA), and the Excellence in Writing Award from the National Federation of Press Women and Pennsylvania Press Club.
