VARIETY OF DANCE STYLES SHOWCASED IN "SPRING DANCES" AT CEDAR CREST COLLEGE
Allentown, PA (March 27, 2009)—Cedar Crest College presents, “Spring Dances,” featuring the choreography of dance faculty, on Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25, at 8 p.m. in the Samuels Theatre of the Tompkins College Center. Robin Gerchman, director of dance at Cedar Crest, will guide students through a variety of dance genres including jazz, tap, ballet and modern.
“This concert is about letting the dancers explore the endless possibilities of dance and hone their technical skills in a performance setting," said Gerchman. "That’s why the audience will see everything from classic ballet to modern pieces. There is truly something for every dance enthusiast.”
The eclectic mix of dance includes a new, modern work by guest choreographer Nicholas Ross titled, “Journey.” Ross has served in the past as a guest teacher at Cedar Crest College, and he is currently the artistic director and choreographer of Nicholas Andre Dance in New York City.
Cedar Crest faculty member pieces include: Pattie Bostick-Winn’s jazz choreography based on the poem, “I am who I am...and I am me,” by Deanza Bowrin; Nicole Hockenberry’s tap piece grounded in African rhythms similar to those from the musical, “The Lion King”; Gerchman’s modern piece, “Sunset Rain”; Margo Clifford Ging’s ballet piece, a classical suite of excerpts; and Michelle Jacob’s piece, a compilation of movement sketches.
The Spring Dance Concert runs April 24 and 25 at 8 p.m. in the Samuels Theatre. Tickets are $15 for adults; $10 for seniors; and $5 for students with I.D. For more information contact the Box Office at 610-606-4608 or visit www.cedarcrest.edu/stage.
