CEDAR CREST COLLEGE TO CROWN THIS YEAR'S IRON WOMAN
Students, Faculty and Staff Team Up for Indoor Mini-Triathlon
Allentown, PA (March 29, 2006) – Members of the Cedar Crest community will go head to head in a test of physical skill and stamina at the 2nd Annual Iron Woman Indoor Triathlon TODAY, Wednesday, March 29, 2006. The race begins in the Rodale Aquatic Center at 8:00 p.m.
Students will compete individually or as members of a team to complete each of the legs of the triathlon. Participants will swim 150 meters in the pool then transition to the College fitness center where they will ride the stationary bike for three miles and finish by running one mile on the treadmill. Teams that include a faculty or staff member will have the added incentive of set deductions from their overall time. Iron Woman hopefuls and the fans that line the course to cheer them on will have the opportunity to win prizes and rewards.
“Our first Iron Woman event last year was a huge success. This is the kind of athletic contest that people of many fitness levels can have confidence and fun competing in,” says Valerie Donohue, health and wellness coordinator at Cedar Crest College. “The Healthy U Program is having an amazing semester thus far so the participants are psyched about going head to head in this event."
The Health Connection at Cedar Crest College is a campus-wide program designed to improve mind, body and spirit. Its objective is to give students what they need to break the cycle of unhealthy behaviors and to develop at Cedar Crest a national research and action model for changing the habits of undergraduate women. The Health Connection also offers programs for the larger community and is comprised of a number of elements including Healthy U, a 10-12 week program that encourages participants to develop healthy behaviors and meet personal health and fitness goals, ongoing research, an annual conference, and public lectures and workshops.
