Center will Also Offer PADI Certification Course

Allentown, PA (March 31, 2005) - The Rodale Aquatic Center for Civic Health at Cedar Crest College will offer a special one-evening course for people who want to experience the excitement of SCUBA diving in pool conditions. The PADI Discovery SCUBA class will be held on Tuesday, April 5th from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. at the Rodale Aquatic Center.

“This is a great class for those who want to find out what it is like to dive and is the perfect first step if you want to becoming a certified diver,” says Scott Rowlands, Director or the Rodale Aquatic Center.

During the class, a PADI Master Instructor will demonstrate to participants some basic concepts and SCUBA skills and all students will get to experience what it is like to dive. Those who participate in Discovery SCUBA Diving are on their way to an internationally recognized certification. Skills learned during the course are also used in the PADI Open Water Diver course and may be credited toward the PADI Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver certifications.

There is a $20 fee for the class. Discovery SCUBA students who then sign up for the Open Water Certification course will have that fee deducted from the cost of that series of classes, which runs every Tuesday from April 12th through May 17th at 6:30 p.m. with two additional open water training dives.

PADI Open Water Certification allows a person to SCUBA dive without a master instructor. Classes will include both pool modules at Aquatic Center and open water training at Dutch Springs in Bethlehem. James Karapelou, PADI Master Instructor will conduct the classes. Both the Discovery SCUBA class and Open Water Certification course are open to persons aged 10 years and up.
