CEDAR CREST ANNOUNCES TWO NEW MAJORS
Criminal Justice and Marketing Programs Focus on Developing Future Leaders

Allentown, PA (March 7, 2006) – Cedar Crest College is proud to announce two new fields of study to meet the growing demand for skilled leaders in criminal justice and marketing.

"Cedar Crest has a long history of developing cutting edge programs that meet national needs," says Nancy Hollinger, director of the Center for Lifelong Learning. "These new fields of study offer financial aid and flexible scheduling options that make a quality education in a high-demand field accessible to students with a variety of needs."

Criminal Justice

The Criminal Justice major at Cedar Crest College is designed to provide an academically challenging program of studies that will prepare students to assume leadership positions in the various professional arenas associated with criminal justice like Correctional Management, Federal and State Law Enforcement and Child Welfare Services. Students will also have hands-on practical experience when they engage in a senior year field experience in a community-based criminal justice setting.

"The job outlook for criminal justice graduates through the next five years will be favorable due, in part, to a more security-conscious society," says Maynard Cressman, chair of social sciences at Cedar Crest. "Local, state and federal agencies are responding to increasing needs for security by budgeting for, and hiring more, bachelor degree-prepared professionals."

Marketing

In today’s fast-paced business world there is a tremendous amount of pressure on companies, big and small, to be competitive and stay profitable. This demanding environment has forced employers to look for people who can think on their feet and contribute to the company’s bottom line. While much emphasis has been put on production and finance over the last several decades, savvy executives have realized that strong marketing is the best way to solidify a company today and propel it into the future.

To meet this demand for skilled marketing professionals, the Cedar Crest College Business Department is introducing a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. This program is designed to prepare students for a career as a leader of marketing departments and organizations through a study of the latest marketing theory in conjunction with hands-on, practical experience. The foundation of Cedar Crest’s marketing program is set in the study of the principles of marketing, public relations, consumer behavior, and market research.

"When applying for a job in this competitive field, having relevant real-world experience to complement strong academics can be the deciding factor that gives one candidate an edge over the other," says Gaetan Gianinni, chair of business, management and economics. "We've designed a program that teams with local businesses to give our students as much of that valuable experience as possible while they are completing their degree."
