CEDAR CREST COLLEGE RECEIVES GRANT FOR CHARLOTTE W. NEWCOMBE SCHOLARSHIPS

Allentown, PA (May 11, 2004) - The Trustees of the Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation have granted $24,000 to Cedar Crest College to continue the program of Newcombe Scholarships for mature women students in the 2004-2005 academic year.

Specifically designed to assist the mature/second career woman, the Newcombe Scholarship has helped countless students pursue their dream of a college education. Previous scholarship recipients share a common thread - they are women with high aspirations and academic achievements, who face formidable financial stress, family responsibilities and overwhelming schedules.

The Newcombe grant recognizes the strength of Cedar Crest's academic and supportive services for its Lifelong Learning students, many of whom excel academically. The grant takes life circumstances other than those normally viewed in the financial aid process into consideration. Since 1981, the College has received $303,000 in scholarship aid.

"The Newcombe Foundation's recognition of mature women students is valued not only in the monetary sense," says Nancy Hollinger, Director of the Center for Lifelong Learning at Cedar Crest, "The many years of support, dedication and recognition also play an instrumental role in enhancing the lives of our students."
