LOCAL STUDENTS RECEIVE CEDAR CREST COLLEGE DEGREES
Allentown, PA (May 13, 2006) – Two hundred and fourteen students were awarded a bachelor’s or master’s degree at Cedar Crest College’s 136th Commencement Ceremony at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 13, 2006 on the College Quadrangle. Student speakers were Amanda E. Swartz, of Elysburg, PA, representing the traditional student population, and Katherine Anne Basile, of Lehighton, PA, speaking on behalf of the Lifelong Learning student population. Graduates received diplomas from College President Dorothy Gulbenkian Blaney and Provost Carol A. Pulham.
The ceremony was marked by the first-time hooding of Masters of Education graduates and the announcement by Board of Trustees Chair, Charles T. Noonan, Esq., that the College's Administration Building will be rededicated and renamed for Dr. Blaney, who has served as president of Cedar Crest since 1989. Noonan noted that a formal dedication ceremony will be held on a date yet to be determined.
With Commencement falling on Mother's Day weekend, the College ceremony was made even more special for some Cedar Crest grads. This year Marilyn Morales watched her daughter Noelia be the first of her family to receive a bachelor's degree … and then she got hers too. The pair from Bethlehem both graduated with degrees in social work and Noelia came home with an additional degree in psychology. Having taken numerous classes together, helping each other out when necessary and sharing the experience of some of Cedar Crest's unique traditions and events together, mom and daughter look back on their academic with lots of pride and laughter, and look forward to more milestones, including Noelia's upcoming wedding and attending graduate school. (For more information on this story, please see release "Mother's Day Made Special by Dual Diploma's" from May 10, 2006.)
A list of graduates follows with Pennsylvania and New Jersey residents organized by county and city. Out of state residents are listed by state and city only.
