The Friends of Cedar Crest Theatre Present
Diverse Ensemble Includes Span of Talent, From Emmy Award-Winning Professionals to College Students

Allentown, PA (May 24, 2004) - Desire, romance, intrigue and comedy collide as the Friends of Cedar Crest Theatre (FCCT) present Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Performances of the timeless tale will run June 17, 18 and 19 at 8:00 p.m. in the Samuels Theatre of the Tompkins College Center.

One of Shakespeare's most beloved early comedies, the FCCT production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" will be set in present day Central Park. The ensemble will test the relevance of Shakespeare's ideas and themes staged in present day as well as tackle just what love is all about in the year 2004. The ensemble will also use non-traditional casting to create more female roles to allow for more exploration of the characters.

"This production won't be what people expect," says Director, Kerri-leigh Taylor '03. "But come with an open mind and a light heart and I can promise a few laughs, surprises and maybe bring the audience back to the moment when they first fell in love."

"Shakespeare buffs will find this production a fresh new take on an old favorite, while people unfamiliar with the Bard may enjoy the modern twists and turns the cast has incorporated," says Taylor.

The FCCT is an alumnae group that works to raise money for Cedar Crest's performing arts. Over the past 18 years, they have raised money to buy equipment for the scene shop, costume shop and dance department. Aside from fundraising, the FCCT also strives to bring students and alumnae together in a mentoring, supportive environment, and the way that they have found best is to - put on a show. To date, FCCT has produced six productions - "Daughters," "The Actors Nightmare," "Sister Mary Ignatious Explains It All For You," "The gift of The Magi," "Holiday Punch" (2002) and "Holiday Punch" (2003).

This year, in addition to alumnae and students, FCCT has also enlisted the help of several community members. "The beauty of theatre is to be able to bring people from diverse backgrounds together to learn and grow from the experience," says Taylor. "By working with students, alumnae and community actors, we are bringing a wealth of experience to the ensemble."

Members of the cast and crew of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" include: Kerri-leigh Taylor, Heather Timberman, David Goldfeder, Steven Bost, Brenna O'Keefe, Missy Sturtevant, Abbie Nutting, Kira Scott, Sarahbeth Mannon, Saladine Cannady, Megan Kees, Todd Carpien, Ellen Werley, Sarah Wasniewski, Ellen Ritter, Rebecca Levine, Jennifer Alloway, David Evan Serfass, Lorraine Peterson, Katie Cort, Angela Caravella, Rita Ann Kogler and Prudence Wehnert-Skinner.
