MIMI GRIFFIN, FORMER ESPN COMMENTATOR AND OWNER/OPERATOR OF MSG PROMOTIONS TO GIVE SEVENTH ANNUAL WOMEN IN BUSINESS LECTURE AND RECEIVE AWARD
Allentown, PA (November 15, 2007) - Mimi Griffin, former ESPN color commentator and owner/operator of MSG Promotions, Inc., a major event management, marketing and client entertainment company that specializes in professional golf events, is the featured guest at Cedar Crest College's Seventh Annual Women in Business Lecture and Award. Griffin will speak about "A Behind the Scenes Perspective of the Making of a Championship: The 2009 U.S. Women's Open" on Tuesday, December 4, at 7:00 p.m. in the Lachaise Gallery, Miller Family Building at Cedar Crest College. The Women in Business Series at Cedar Crest College is sponsored by "More than Money with Gene Dickison."
Mimi Griffin has owned and operated MSG Promotions, Inc. since its inception in 1983. Mimi's extensive experience in the sports and event management fields has facilitated MSG's successful execution of many prestigious events. By placing an emphasis on service, clear and constant communication and attention to detail, Mimi has distinguished MSG Promotions as one of the finest companies within the event management field.
The United States Golf Association has recognized this outstanding reputation by selecting MSG to manage the corporate hospitality sales, fulfillment and operations for the U.S. Open Championships each year. In addition, the USGA selected MSG Promotions to manage all Championship logistics for the 2009 U.S. Women's Open at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, PA. Mimi serves as the Executive Director for this event.
Mimi's valuable experience in sports and event marketing and management has come from many different sources. She worked as ESPN's primary women's basketball analyst from 1983 through 1999 and with CBS Sports from 1985 through 1991. In 1990, Mimi became the first woman to serve as a color analyst for a men's NCAA Tournament game on ESPN and in 1991, was the first woman to broadcast the first two rounds of the men's NCAA basketball tournament on CBS Sports. This accomplishment is noted in the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. Mimi served as the studio analyst along with Robin Roberts for ESPN's coverage of the NCAA Women's Basketball tournament during the 1996 through 1999 seasons.
In addition to her current work with the U.S. Open, Mimi has served as Championship Director for the 1992 and 2000 U.S. Senior Opens at Saucon Valley Country Club, as well as for the 1995 U.S. Women's Open at the Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs.
Mimi graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh and Masters in Business Administration from Lehigh University. After completing her degrees, Mimi worked in the Special Events Marketing department at Manufacturers Hanover Trust (1980-82) in New York City and later accepted the position of National Director of Promotions for Women's Athletics for Converse (1983-85). She resides in Allentown, PA with her husband Bill and two children Kyle and Casey.
In receiving the Cedar Crest College Women in Business Award, Griffin joins a distinguished group of past honorees including Elaine Thompson, president of Lankenau Hospital and former executive vice president and chief operating officer of St. Luke's Hospital and Health Network, Cynthia Fricke Wollman, vice president of new business development at CRW Graphics, Sandy Solman, founder, president and CEO of Sweet Street Desserts, Susan Hunt, publisher and Chief Executive Officer of "The Morning Call," Ruth Spira, executive vice president of Lutron Electronics, and Lisa Jane Scheller, president and CEO of Silberline Manufacturing Company, Inc.
