Allentown, PA (November 17, 2006) - June Samph, a 1st grade teacher at Ritter Elementary School, is this year's recipient of the Howard L. Klopp Exemplary Teacher Award. Mrs. Samph received the award during a ceremony at Ritter Elementary School on November 10, 2006.
The Klopp award is presented annually by Cedar Crest College to local educators who best exemplify a devotion to quality in education; the ability to focus on each student's strengths; a commitment to helping a student achieve full potential; concern for the students that extends beyond the classroom; outstanding service to school and community and dedication to helping colleagues and advancing the profession.
During her teaching career at Ritter Elementary, Mrs. Samph has demonstrated leadership in education in a variety of ways. She is known for being skilled in identifying children's needs and empowering them to take ownership over the education that is being offered them. She believes in setting high standards for all children and strives to assist them in achieving their goals. In addition, she offers mentorship support to fellow faculty members and welcomes student teachers from several local colleges into her classroom each year.
Mrs. Samph is responsible for implementing several programs at Ritter including their Veteran's Day program, visiting senior citizens during the holiday season, and an annual Food/Supply Drive for the local Humane Society chapter. She plans to retire at the end of this school year, but already has plans to return to Ritter to volunteer her assistance to students who need help with reading.
The principal of Ritter Elementary School, Melissa Marcks, along with the
entire faculty and staff nominated Mrs. Samph for this prestigious honor. "Mrs.
Samph is a consummate professional, a leader amongst our faculty, a mentor,
an active listener, and the list goes on and on," says Marcks. "We
feel truly blessed to have her as a colleague and devoted member of our professional
staff for the past twenty-two years."
