CEDAR CREST PRESENTS A MUSICAL CELEBRATION OF THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT WITH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS VESPERS

Allentown, PA (November 8, 2006) - Cedar Crest College’s Annual Christmas Vespers will take place on Sunday, December 3rd at 4:00 p.m. in the school’s Alumnae Hall Auditorium.  The program is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature the College’s Flute Ensemble, All College Women’s Chorus and Madrigal Singers in addition to carol singing, candle lighting and holiday readings.  This year, a bell choir, formed by senior music major Lisa Hoffert of Allentown, will also perform seasonal music selection.

The Madrigal Singers will be performing “The Blessed Damozel” by Clause Debussy.  This lyric poem was composed for four-part women’s voices, soprano solo with piano accompaniment.  Piano Professor Gloria Snyder will be at the keyboard; and Jennifer Brozenske, a graduate of Cedar Crest’s music program, will sing the solos.

The Madrigal Singers will join with the All College Women’s Chorus in performing Benjamin Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols” accompanied by harpist and Bethlehem native Samantha Wittchen.  The soloists for this piece are Jennifer Brozenske and faculty member Amy Reese.  “A Ceremony of Carols” is considered to be a staple in the women’s chorus repertoire and thus a major work that is performed at least once per student generation.

Elaine Martin is the director of the Flute Ensemble; and Dr. E. Allen Richardson, professor of R\religion, will provide appropriate seasonal reading.  Professor Charles McAnall is the director of the All College Women’s Chorus and the Madrigal Singers.
