LV Chapter of PA Institute of Certified Public Accountants Event Introduces Students to Diverse Career Opportunities in the Field
Allentown, PA (October 15, 2008) - More than 100 students from area high schools will visit Cedar Crest College on Friday, October 17 to participate in a day long “Passport to Opportunity” event designed to expose students to the diverse career opportunities in the accounting profession. The event is produced and sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
The event, which will be held in the Hamilton Boulevard Building at Cedar Crest College (2901 Hamilton Boulevard), brings high school and college students together to learn about accounting careers. The program consists of a welcome by PICPA, a keynote address and presentations by accounting professionals. Students will participate in group discussions that will cover four to five accounting disciplines, including public accounting, business and industry, forensic accounting, government, education, tax and financial planning, information technology and consulting. Speakers will talk to groups of students about their unique career and school experiences, as well as finding a work-life balance. Speakers rotate to each group so everyone will have a chance to listen and ask questions.
The Passport to Opportunity will feature a keynote address by Meg Holland, CPA, President of Meg Holland & Associates, PC, CPA and City of Bethlehem Controller; and a session on financial literacy by Kim Smith, CPA and Mike Wescura, CPA. Jeffry S. Berdahl, CPA, Dawn Anderson, CPA and an accounting panel of Cedar Crest College students will also make presentations to the group.
Note to Media: The Passport to Opportunity event gives local media outlets an opportunity to put a local spin on the continually changing and intense financial headlines that are dominating news coverage over the last few weeks. Media are welcome, but are requested to call the College Relations Office at 610-740-3790 to register.
