CEDAR CREST COLLEGE NURSING PROGRAM ACHIEVES UNPRECEDENTED 100 PERCENT PASS RATE FOR THE SECOND TIME IN A ROW
Allentown, PA (October 25, 2005) – All twenty-five students in Cedar Crest College’s most recent full-time fall entry Nursing program class achieved a 100 percent pass rate from the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) NCLEX® examination for Registered Nurses. The exam is the final required step in the nurse licensure process. This is the second nursing class in a row at to achieve this distinction. In May 2005, nursing students who graduated in January became the first Cedar Crest class to entirely pass the exam.
“This is an unprecedented accomplishment for our nursing program and we are thrilled with the students' performance,” says Dr. Laurie Murray, RN, DSN, chairperson and associate professor of nursing at Cedar Crest. “The average national first-time pass rate is around 84 percent. To have two classes consecutively pass the test on their first try is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and faculty.”
The news comes on the heels of the opening of three, brand new, state of the art nursing labs on campus. Although Cedar Crest has been a leader in nursing education for decades, the College has recently seen a spike in the number of students entering the field. In the past three years, the number of students has increased by 300 percent. In order to meet and enhance the educational needs of approximately 250 nursing students this year, the College added the Nursing Learning Resource Center. The center is designed to accurately mirror hospital settings and will serve to reinforce the skills that students learn during their clinical time at Lehigh Valley healthcare facilities.
The Nursing Department at Cedar Crest is the only program in the Lehigh Valley to offer two part-time tracks to a baccalaureate degree in addition to its full-time offerings.
