CEDAR CREST STAGE COMPANY PRESENTS "COWGIRLS"
Allentown, PA (September 20, 2004) - The Cedar Crest Stage Company kicks off its 2004-2005 season with a musical comedy that offers lots of laughs and songs to satisfy a variety of musical tastes. "Cowgirls" runs September 30th, October 1st and 2nd at 8:00 p.m., and October 3rd at 2:00 p.m.
"Though the play is set in a western saloon, the audience will hear many different musical styles, from traditional musical production numbers to country, to gospel, to classical - it's all here," says Tina Stanley, director of the production. "'Cowgirls' is a truly entertaining story."
"Cowgirls" is the story of Jo, who has twenty-four hours to save Hiram Hall - her father's once-famous country-western saloon - from foreclosure. Jo is sure that a great musical act, like the Cowgirl Trio, will help. Unfortunately, the classically trained Coghill Trio shows up to perform. "The plot of the play is entertainingly simple, but there is definitely a moral to this story," says Stanley. "It's the question of whether these two sets of characters - classical versus country - can find common ground and save the place; a challenge that generates great comedic moments."
Stanley asserts that the energy and enthusiasm of the cast makes the show more accessible to the audience. "Some casts have to make it a point to bond, but the chemistry between these women will make you believe they've been friends for years," says Stanley.
"Cowgirls" marks Stanley's directorial debut on the main stage at Cedar Crest, having worked on numerous productions both locally in the Lehigh Valley and in New York City. Stanley graduated from Cedar Crest College in 1988 with a degree in theatre and was thrilled to be asked to direct this show. "It's a neat feeling to be working with former teachers on a new level and utilizing much of what I, myself, learned right here."
The cast of "Cowgirls" includes: Devon Caraballo '05 (Easton), Angela Vialotti '06 (New Milford, CT), Allison Kazaras '06 (Westminster, MD), Tricia Egner '06 (Kennett Square), Rachel Bisceglie '07 (Pine Bush, NY) and Vanessa Johnson '08 (Stratford, CT).
"Cowgirls" runs September 30, October 1 & 2 at 8:00 p.m. and October 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the Samuels Theatre in the Tompkins College Center. Admission is $15, $10 and $10 at the door. For more information, please contact the Cedar Crest College Box Office at 610-606-4608.
